Since its founding in 1948, Speedway United Methodist Church has been a place of faith, fellowship, and service in the Speedway community. In its early years, the congregation gathered in a variety of locations throughout town, including the former Speedway Movie Theater, the gymnasium of what is now Speedway Junior High School, Farley Funeral Home, and the C.I.O. Union Hall.
As the congregation grew, a permanent home was established on 16th Street. Construction began on what would become Speedway United Methodist Church, with the Chapel consecrated on September 27, 1953. Continued growth led to the completion of the Sanctuary in 1960. In 2005, the Sanctuary was renovated to support contemporary worship while preserving the church's rich heritage.
For more than seven decades, Speedway United Methodist Church has answered God's call by serving the needs of our neighbors and community. In 1997, recognizing the growing need for quality childcare, the church launched the Speedway United Methodist Child Care Ministry.
The ministry has continued to evolve alongside the community it serves, earning recognition as a Pathways to Quality provider and receiving certifications from the State of Indiana and the Family and Social Services Administration. Guided by the respected Christian-based Abeka curriculum, the childcare ministry remains a valued and thriving part of our outreach today.
