Youth Ministry

A place for teens to belong, ask hard questions, and grow in faith. Families are always welcome here.

Speedway United Methodist Youth

Equipping young people, ages 11-18 (grades 6-12), to grow in their faith, develop leadership skills, and make a lasting impact in their church and community. We believe youth are not just the future of the church, they are leaders today.

To GATHER

  • Be yourself. All are welcome, just as you are.
  • Feel safe and supported. All participants and adult volunteers comply with the Safe Sanctuaries policies of The United Methodist Church.
  • Belong and fellowship.
  • Build meaningful relationships.
  • Connect with us on Realm. In compliance with UMC Safe Sanctuaries policies, we now use the “Realm Connect” app to communicate with youth participants and their families. Please search “Realm Connect – For Our Church” to download the free app from your phone’s app store and email youth@speedway-umc.org to be added to our Youth Ministry group through this app.

To GROW

And to GO

  • Make a contribution. We organize at least 2 fundraisers each year. We have had a bake sale and our annual car was raises funds for activities and summer camps.
  • Serve our community. SUMY participates in at least 2 community service projects annually, including assisting local homeowners through Speedway Home Helpers and volunteering for Speedway Parks events such as “100 Acre Woods.”
  • Support church ministries. Our youth demonstrate leadership by serving at the church’s Easter Egge Hunt and helping prepare for the Indianapolis 500 parking fundraiser.
  • Have FUN. SUMY plans at least 2 special events annually. Past events have included an annual lock-in at the church, lock-in with rock climbing at Hoosier Heights Indianapolis, park activities, Eagle Creek Hayrides, games and more.

Our Adult Spiritual Leaders and Volunteers

  • Must be at least 5 years older than our oldest youth group participant (per Safe Sanctuaries guidelines)
  • Help coordinate activities
  • Provide meals
  • Assist with transportation
  • Mentor youth
  • Support service projects
  • Serve as event chaperones
  • Create meaningful experiences that strengthen our young people in faith and leadership.
